After seeing her “baby brother” dedicate the majority of his life to serving others --- first with the U.S. military with his start at the Naval Academy, through his commission and career in the Marine Corps --- Dr. Clark has progressively embraced research into removing barriers to improve the quality of Veterans’ lives.   From 2010-2015, with civil service to the U.S. Air Force at Lackland AFB, closer connections to veterans and active duty servicemen and women were forged.

Since then, Dr. Clark has continued to research solutions to social, mental, and medical issues. and has provided pro bono assistance (through Synergy Toxicology) to several veterans when Veterans Administration claim processes became overwhelming.  A common challenge reported by the veterans Dr. Clark has helped was that of lack of access to affordable transitional housing.  Because they served all of us in the Land of the Free, working with partners through the XO Community Development Initiative is one small way she is determined to try to say thank you.

Throughout 2022, the needs for social services and transitional housing have become even greater, with larger underserved populations requiring assistance. An additional mission element of the XO Community Development Initiative is to remove lack of education as a barrier to a future of stability and prosperity: Serving the re-entry population prior to release and ensuring access to advanced education opportunities, including compassionate mentors paired with those who have a nexus to the justice system is a key component of our future happy, healthy communities.
